Behind the Knife: Meet the Chef Bringing Creativity to Mac’s Chophouse

Bringing Creativity to Mac’s Chophouse

At Mac’s Chophouse, the culinary magic doesn’t just happen by chance. It's a carefully crafted experience led by Chef Michael Fuller, a culinary mastermind who brings creativity and decades of experience to every dish. From his early days on Hilton Head Island to his passion for upscale Southern cuisine, Fuller’s journey to Mac’s Chophouse is as rich and layered as the flavors he creates. Let's dive into the story behind the knife and meet the chefs who make dining at Mac’s a truly unforgettable experience.

A Culinary Journey Begins in Hilton Head

Chef Michael Fuller's love for cooking started long before he became the executive chef and owner of Mac’s Chophouse. His journey began 35 years ago on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where he apprenticed under Swiss Chef George Wierman. There, Fuller learned the essential skills of the trade, developing an eye for the finest details and an appreciation for the artistry of fine dining. His hunger for knowledge and growth led him to further his education at the prestigious Johnson & Wales Culinary School in Charleston, SC.

From Student to Chef: A Steady Climb

While attending culinary school, Fuller’s talents caught the attention of Chef Donald Barickman, who invited him to join the opening team at the now-renowned Magnolia’s in Charleston. This experience introduced Fuller to the world of upscale Southern cuisine, a style that would become the foundation of his culinary philosophy. Barickman’s mentorship not only shaped Fuller’s cooking but also influenced his approach to restaurant management, a skill he would later put to use as an Executive Chef in some of Atlanta’s finest steakhouses, including McKendrick’s, Del Frisco’s, and Ray’s Restaurants.

The Vision Behind Mac’s Chophouse

Chef Fuller’s vast experience and his belief in the modern American steakhouse as a fine dining platform led him to open Mac’s Chophouse on Marietta Square. Working closely with founders Randy and Kelly McCray, Fuller’s passion for elevated food and exceptional service found a perfect match. Mac’s Chophouse is not just another steakhouse—it’s a place where creativity meets tradition, where every steak is cooked to perfection and every dish tells a story.

Fuller’s commitment to quality and his dedication to his craft have earned Mac’s Chophouse a reputation as one of the best dining spots in the area. His menu combines bold flavors with Southern influences, creating an experience that leaves guests craving more. Our chef also provides holiday specials, like the upcoming Valentine’s Day offerings, which are sure to delight.
